Events

Egypt

  • Date supposed of end of the reign of Amenhotep {{Ier}} (Aménophis 1st), (), according to the Helck Egyptologist.

  • With died of Hatchepsout, in the year 22 of its reign (- 1483), Thoutmôsis {{III}} reaches the capacity finally. The provinces of Asia then are seriously threatened by the military inaction of Hatchepsout and the operations of Saustatar, king of the Mitanni, which constitutes a vast coalition in Syria, carried out by the prince of Kadesh. Thoutmosis carries out 17 forwardings in Asia with a great skill, of which it left us the account in the “Annals” registered on the walls of the room of the sanctuary of the crowned boat of Amon Re, set up with the temple of Karnak. The first leads it to the victory of Megiddo (which goes after seven months of seat, year 23) over a coalition of the syro-Palestinian cities. It pushes back the borders until the Euphrate, stopping the expansion of the Mitanni.

  • Menkheperrêseneb, large priest of Amon with Karnak.

  • Nehy, viceroy of Nubie (- 1482).

Economy and company

  • Thoutmôsis begins the construction of a large port on the island of Pharos.

  • the temples, in particular those of Amon and Ptah, receive from the king of broad offerings. Their fields take a considerable importance. They become, by delegation, the social relay of the administration of the grounds, directly managing part of their fields, by allotting another part to the senior officials of the State. This last keeps a right to watch on the setting in culture of the grounds, being reserved to begin again, for the réattribuer, those which are insufficiently exploited. The civils servant acting for the temples often entrust the exploitation of the grounds to managers and tenants having a servile labor, more and more of foreign origin.

  • a certain form of privatization of the ground appears. Relatively important fields (around one ha) are allotted to private individuals, especially soldiers, for rendered services. If they remain attached to a function and thus inalienable, they can be transmitted to the heirs. They can be allotted personally and then are truly privatisés: these batches take a great importance at the time ramesside. In addition grounds can be allotted to free farmers in exchange of various services which can beings required by the State according to the needs.

Arts & culture

  • Thoutmôsis undertakes many constructions and restorations with Karnak. It continues the construction of the temple of Médinet-Habou started with Thoutmôsis {{Ier}}, and raises many other religious monuments in Egypt (Éléphantine, Abydos, Hermonthis, Koptos, Héliopolis) and in Nubie (Amada, Bouhen, Semneh, Koumneh).
