Österreich (daily)
Österreich ( Austria in German) is the title of a Quotidien national Austrian published by Wolfgang Fellner. The first edition appeared on September 1st 2006.
The newspaper
Österreich is since June 2006 with the hands of the Austria Presse Agentur (A.P.A.) which also controls the Kurier and the Kleinen Zeitung . It was envisaged with its launching that the newspaper would be drawn with 250.000 specimens in week and 600.000 the weekend. The model of this new daily newspaper is the American newspaper USA Today . The other Austrian media describe it like a mixture of the British Daily Mirror , Kronen Zeitung Austrian and German Bild .The price of a specimen is of 0,50 €, clearly in lower part of the 0,90 € of comparable newspapers such as the Kurier or the Kronen Zeitung . The publications such as Heute and OK are n the other hand free, but cover only one limited area. The price of a month's subscription with Österreich is of 9,90 €, which returns to only + 0,30 € the specimen.
The target of the daily newspaper are people from twenty to forty-nine years. Wolfgang Fellner declared at the time of a meeting on ORF in July 2006 that he hoped to allure the public of the radio Ö3, one of principal the broadcasters of Austria.
Österreich is financed with height of fifty million euros by a consortium of eight Austrian banks, of which the Bank Austria, the Raiffeisen Zentralbank and the Spängler Bank. The loan is granted for one thirteen years duration.
The daily newspaper is not composed of several layers each one not devoted to a different subject (ex: Le Monde), but of only one treating page by page of the various subjects (ex: The Times). The four principal headings are the “national Newspaper”, the “regional Newspaper”, “Lifestyle Magazin” and “TV Österreich”. Österreich is published in format tabloïd and is printed with Tulln by the firm Goldmann AG.
The newspaper knew at its beginnings of the problems of diffusion, the distributers refusing to deal with new daily newspaper, and Österreich is for the moment delivered to residence only in Vienna and the neighborhoods for its subscribers, by the post office in the remainder of the country.
In October 2006, a complaint was introduced by a private individual against the use of the name Österreich , the called upon reason being that a symbol of the nation cannot be used by a company with business ends and become thus protected initials. It is not yet known if the complaint will be considered to be admissible.
