A éon is very a long period of time, of arbitrary duration. The History of the Earth, of its formation to Current, is divided into four éons. The three first in the chronological order, which represent approximately four billion years, are often gathered under the term of Précambrien.

Hadéen ;
Archaean;
Protérozoïque ;
Phanérozoïque starting from the biological explosion cambrienne.
